A Survey on the Physical and Mental Health of High School Girl Students by Cornell Medical Index


Abstract
The survey was conducted by C.M.I. on a total of 590 high school girl students attending six different schools in Jeon-iu area (of which four were day time schools and two were evening time schools) during the period of March 1 through March 20, 1978 in order to seek their health status, and to contribute to improve the school health programme.
The students were grouped differently according to the level of grade, place of residence, economic standard, religion and presence or absence of part-time job.
The major findings of the study include;
1. Both the physical and mental complaints were increased in direct proportion to the height of the grade-level, with the significance differences, between the first-grade students and the thirdgrade, respectively.
2. The urban students were significantly higher than the rural students, rot only in physical complaints but also in mental complaints.
3. economical status did not shops- any significant difference in physical ccmplaints, although the complaints was higher in the group of lower income. However, in mental complaints the siignificance differences s ere observed, between the upper and middle classes and between the upper ard lower classes, with the higher complaints in the lower inccme group.
4. Both the physical and mental complaints of the religion group were statistically higher than that of nc n-religion group.
5. The physical complaints did not show any statistical difference between the group with the part-time job and those without, although the mental complaints was significantly higher in the first group.
